Why I believe Twitter is useless

You might not agree with me and I know that I will probably receive tons of comments and feedback on why I am completely wrong.
Guess what?
I don't care!
Twitter has always and will always be the poor man's Facebook in my eyes. Its just a completely useless website built for narcissists to "tweet" about their boring lives.
And maybe after I give you all my reasons for why Twitter is useless, you'll begin to agree with me (or you can tweet about how off base nycgrl is...your call)
- Say whatever you want to say just make sure its within 140 characters. That's even less than a text message (which is 160 characters)! Seriously, nothing noteworthy has ever been said in 140 characters or less.
- Because all you can do is write a tweet within 140 characters it makes 90% of all tweets and the Twitter-verse completely meaningless and not worth reading or "following."
- And if I want to link to something else I have to go to the trouble of getting a special short URL since yet again I only have 140 characters. What should be easy, linking my friends to a website, has turned into a project.
- Twitter gets people in trouble. Anthony Weiner. That's all I have to say about that.
- Silly celebrities getting into Twitter battles. I don't care if 50 Cent and Ciara used to date and now he's bitter and writing tweets about her and she is offended. Nobody CARES!
- Everybody has to have tons of followers. So all tweets must be perfect. Oh no, I lost some followers! Let me go kill myself now, life has lost all meaning if I don't have 1 million followers.
- When Twitter is down it apparently topples entire countries and governments. In fact, Twitter being down makes headline news. How on earth will we communicate now? It's not like we have emails and cell phones.
- And have you noticed that Twitter is down a lot?
- Or that celebrities and others are constantly swearing that their Twitter was hacked?
- Charlie Sheen. That's all I have to say about that too.
- Twitter is full of spammers and bots. So you might think you have tons of followers but more than half are not even real human beings...
- Which means that all those tweets you spend so much time on are not even really being read...because even the half of your followers that are human just don't care.
- And that's why nobody reads anything on Twitter since they are busy tweeting themselves.
- Re-tweeting is just the epitome of pure laziness.
- Twitter makes people anti-social. Why should you have to actually SPEAK to people when they can just read your tweets?
Do you see now why I think Twitter is absolutely useless? Maybe you still don't.
And don't get me wrong, I love social media. I just think Facebook is far more superior to Twitter since Facebook allows you to do so much more than just tweet a 140 character message.

You are completely right. Twitter is useless. I've had an account for over 2 years and I've logged in maybe 10 times. If it were useful, I would have figured that out by now and I would login more.
Hahaha Jeannie same here. That comment to follow me @ruskrewed is real that is a real Twitter account I have. But I only opened it to say I have it, I rarely log on and I link my hubs to there just because Hubs make it easy not because I even care. Thanks for commenting!
Great point of view but I'll have to differ. As a media junkie I find Twitter rocks! I have a short attention span so 140 characters are perfect for me. It also serves it purpose for my work. I tweet Ebay specials, Avon sales and share my hubs! I'm a Jack of all trades! :) it's really cool when a hub-bot picks up my hub and retweets it to their followers. I'm planning on writing a hub on the pros of Twitter in the near future so I find your hub superb!!! Thank you and voted UP!!!!

Twitter can be a good thing though when its used for the right reasons. I have been able to make money from twitter by using it to promote my business and websites.

Well,unless you have a hidden account, looking at the twitter account you posted here, I fail to see how you can make your judgement call on whether Twitter is Useless on not! You have not used it!!!
Of course you would not just be looking for an immediate Twitter 'following' would you. lol
I personally find that FB is too messy and is trying too much to be 'all things to all people':-)

Your totally wrong, maybe you aren't using it right, Twitter is the best tool you can have.
Agree with Arren123 have you really tried using it properly and back linking it to good hubs and proper articles as it is an immense tool.
Also if people RT then items can go Viral in no time if they are wirthwhile.
I agree there is a lot of PAP and sales crap on Teitter one just has to be selective and keep your eyes open for the good stuff.

Hi nycgrl, You are too funny on this hub about Twitter. I'm with you on the narcissistic angle of it: Look at me, look at me, read about me, look what I'm doing, watch me Mommy. But in a way it has helped me gain new readership when I tweet about a new article I've written or read. And that improves traffic to our site. Voted this one up and funny.
Thanks for all the comments, love how my hub is causing a lot of discussion. I was wondering where all the Twitter lovers were. Listen, as I said, to each his own. I work in the marketing field so obviously on a professional retail level I know that Twitter can be useful. But on a personal level, which is what most people use it for, I just don't think its all that great. That's just me and my opinion though, if you love it and have had fun & success with it, good for you. I'll stick to Facebook though :-)
I have been a twitter for a while, I have found it useful to catch up with people I follow on other places like youtube, or even this place. Twitter may not be like hubpages, and hubpages could never be like twitter. with twitter, you get a glimps into a persons life, what they are doing at that moment, did their cat have kittens, can't do that on hubpages. Twitter can also help to promote your hubpages or other sites you have. Yes, you may have to get a short url for that page, but its worth it if your site or page is something people will enjoy. I won't say your wrong, but look at twitter as another form of communicating with people.

Yeh Twitter is useless until you experience a massive Retweet that sends your stats through the roof. This only happened once to me (it was a small explosion) but convinced me that a miracle can happen on Twitter if you are lucky. I now have about 10 friends on Twitter out of my almost 10,000 followers WOW! Facebook is even worse. i joined a few days ago as an Avatar and now I have about 100 friends who I don't know. They want me to see their stuff but I don't have time to see 100 people's stuff. I can't use Facebook to have my real contacts on it because it could become a security issue for me. This is because when you are doing business you will find that some of your contacts must be kept a secret from others. If someone wants to profile you and see how you operate and who you know and if you are connected to your useful contacts then your situation can easily be compromised by people who spend time making money by being busy bodies.
Follow me on Twitter ...LOL! .. Send me a Tweet so that I can retweet all of my fake followers and a couple of my real contacts.
I think FB is good for reconnecting with old friends and keeping up with current ones and Twitter is good for strangers/networking. You can get important job and news alerts too - that's the best reason to use it.
Voted up, awesome, and interesting! I actually post all my hubs to Twitter to get the links out there in cyberspace. That's literally the only reason I use it. LOL great hub!!
This sounds like one long negative rant. what is the point of this, may I ask? Why is this hub so popular when it is not helping anyone in any constructive way. If you don't care for Twitter, just avoid it. This is what everyone always tells me when I don't like something.

funny and up ... good post ... I'm a bit on the fence really ... I have lots of people I'm following and surprisingly a reasonable amount of people are following me too but I really don't know how you are supposed to keep up with all the tweets and posts as they are never ending and continuous.
